back to civil affairs

When the little boy in the doorway, Jack, walked by Andi spoke her first words. We have no idea what she said. But we all stopped in our tracks to hear her say her first words.

We have been nonstop.. I mean nonstop....having to go back to the civil affair's office for 2 interviews, passport photo, and shopping at Chinese Wal-mart!!

OMGoodness--what an experience shopping..

breakfast monday morning

Boys were so excited to eat bacon. I think this bowl was empty when we left--hehe..

early am thoughts/middle of night

"Sing to God, sing praise to his name,
extol him who rides on the clouds, his name is the Lord, rejoice before him.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families..." - Psalm 68:4-6

Monday, April 11, 2011 am Andi Day

I have been up since 6am (7am now), but the boys are still sleeping except for thomas who slept with me. he woke soon after i did.. try to get him to go back to sleep but he said it is too light in here. (there barely is any light coming thru--just got a boy ready to go get his baby sister).

We meet Catherine at 11am for a short meeting. At 2 we will drive over to the Civil Affairs office for our baby girl. There are 2 maybe 3 other families with our agency going too.

Can't wait to go get her. All is calm..

We got to our hotel about 9pm and we skyped with andy til about 10pm. Then the boys went down to sleep. I went to bed around 11or 11:30.. It was really hard to sleep because I was so excited...

My bub got banana pancakes at Leslie's. I know that made him happy. I posted the monkey bread photo for Bub and the Sales. Bub made it to the beach late Sunday afternoon so I know that made him happy, too. Good to have friends that live with the beach as their backyard.

The Z's could still buy that oceanfront home for all of us to gather. I told them I would be the care keeper... I know 4 boys that would love to play with the z boys and z girl --- and show a godwin girl how the "beach is done" the godwin-z way. I think the mountain milk could help pay for it... :)

My mom is in the hospital but is suppose to come home on Monday. Pray that she does and all problems are healed. She needs your prayers..and so do I..

The boys said the guide says "ummm, ummm" too much. I think he is the guide that picks up and delivers--raymond...
Catherine is our agency guide. We will meet her this am.

It was a little trying to get housekeeping to understand that I needed an extra set of bed linens to make John's bed on the sofa. Finally, with using all boys and myself has props, she understood. She returned with a pillow top mattress cover that we doubled over for him. I then put the sofa and chair cushions on the floor so we would have more leg length. he was happy as a clam.... We have slept our kids in the closet in the portable crib---to keep the light out so they wouldnt wake up with the sun!! worked out great for those that are worried that we put our kids in a closet.... You see the night owl tom goes to bed late and rises early...

The guide last night said we could ask for pillow tops to make our bed softer. But we have a japanese style suite and the bed is not too bad.
As we were driving in, I was thinking how to get the boys to bed quickly... we needed to eat quickly......so what better way to be quick than run thru mcdonalds. The driver and guide said they would think of where one was.. then finally the guide said, " you just got here, it is too early not to eat our food"--laugh, laugh
"most americans dont need american food on the first day!" hehe..
But when I explained we wanted to go to bed quickly, not have to find place to eat, wonder what to order, worry bout it upsetting tummies---that i was just sticking with the tried and true.... Micky D dollar chicken sandwich, make mine with no mayo but honey mustard. and yes......i was thinking about getting a micky d sweet tea.....
We settled on snacks from our bags....

We get to go to the breakfast buffet which the boys will like. They think our hotel is a big step down from the one in HK. They are hotel snobs.....their mom is too.
Ponte Vedra Inn and Spa, here i come in june....cant wait..

reina, i did ask where i could get a massage this am. will work on that when the boys get up and about. a chinese massage sounds good--i think...

John feel asleep before we took off last night (only 40 min flight) and i could not wake him up to get off the plane. I had to let everyone pass us...and then he was still dazed.....BUT the good news is I found the other two boys right beside the airplane door when john and i exited plane..... not loosing my boys again...

boys are stirring in the other room..

pray for all of us......the day will be filled with extreme emotions... but can't wait.. i am diving in... Jesus is holding us..

much love to everyone..

kathleen, i cant wait to be able to see your gotcha day photos as soon as i can get on blogger...

The adoption families are awesome:0

Julie from across the states from us (never have met her) helped me get onto blogger this am. She even asked if she could do all the posting for us.. blown away with the way people help others.
THANK YOU JULIE

Sonship

" For you did not receive the spirit of bondage to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified with him." -Romans 8:14-17

3rd largest Buddha in the world

A lady at the pool tried to talk me into taking a 25 min shuttle up the mountain to the 3rd largest Buddha. So those of you that have down time in HK, you might want to check this 1/2 day trip out.

I am pleased that we took the day off relaxing by the pool and eating at the club level lounge. We were spoiled rotten at the hotel.

Sitting at HK airport

I forgot to take video and photos of the airplanes landing right outside our window. We overlooked a runway then the water. Steven said he thought when we were landing the other night that we were landing in water. The airstrip is right beside the water!!

For those of you worried that I wouldn't make it to our flight without incident, we did it just fine:) The boys are great travelers and great at watching for the signs. They are being such a big help. We have bag check--to make sure that we have all our bags every time we move from one spot to another.

When we arrive in Gz we will have a guide with a sign to help us to our airport and check in to the airport. Then we will have a guide to help us doing everything we will need.

We passed out in-coutry weight limit on luggage. One weighed 19kg and the other one 17kg. The limit was 20kg. We repacked and weighed at the hotel. That was close..

Back in the US in Jax, one bag weighed 50 lbs which was the limit. So we did some major rearranging to get it down under 44 lbs.

It is amazing that the kids have never ending energy. They went to bed about midnight and were up bout 7am. Thomas slept in til bout 7:30!! He must have been tired because he is always the first one up.

Steven talked in his sleep all night. I am just glad he didn't do any of his night walking.
He slept with me in a king size bed and stayed on his side:)

Fun at the pool

Second time I lost it

Well, I can write about it now. Too hard last night. And besides John spilled the beans as soon as he spoke with ANdy.

Our flight to HK was great, very few people on the plane. I was able to spread across 4 seats for the best sleep I had yet. I was even drooling. I didn't even have my own pillow, or noise cancellation headset and I still slept like a baby. It was awesome. I think the boys just watched movies the whole ride. But they spread out too. Everyone was so comfy.

I several compliments how well behaved and kind the boys were as we were exiting the plane!
Sweet boys. They are on cloud 9---ready for their sister and enjoying the trip.. It has been a pleasure traveling with them.. I do miss my bub terribly!! that made me cry... miss u bub and love you much. you are th best son ever:)

Soo, Thomas and JOhn walked down the opposite aisle than Steven and me. They were just steps in front of me. We got off the plane--no boys.. went down the tunnel--no boys. walked to the ticket area at the gate--no boys... where could they be??? they would have waiting on me...

The only answer I had was that they walked with the crowd toward immigration.. just going with flow... the more i walked the more i became worried.
I stopped every airport person.. have you seen my boys. i have lost them.. on to the next person--have you seen my boys, i have lost them, help me.. I felt like the "are you my mommy?" children's book...
I asked one lady to call overhead for them. She said it was broken..

Finally, in a panic, a lady helped me. She told me to walk to the end to security. She walked with me. At security, I was saying "DO SOMETHING QUICK!! TOO MUCH TIME HAS GONE BY.. DO SOMETHING!!"

At that point, a Delta flight attendant came to me to say the boys were coming up the hall. "How do you know? How do you know? Are you sure?" She was sure. She said they stayed at the plane like good boys and waited on me..

THERE THEY ARE!! Praise the Lord..

THey were with the pilots and the rest of the crew. The captain said they waited on me outside of the plane, but delta had opened 2 doors to exit off plane. I went out one door and they went out the other. so we never did see each other. They had waited on me.
The captain said they told them they were looking for their mom and she must be on the plane still because they had not seen her come off yet. The captain walked them around the plane to check the bathrooms.

So this is when I lost it and just sobbed.. The captain was smiling and saying everything was good now.. That they were smart boys..

Thank you Lord for another traveling mercies..

His mercies are new every morning..

My Dear Friends

On Thursday and Friday my 3 sweet dear friends showed up to help and just be with me.

Reina brought over her delicious chocolate chip cookies, packed our snack back and prayed the most beautiful prayer.

Lisa ran to get another set of passport photos for andy. I have only bought thousands of passport photos for this trip. Thank goodness CVS keeps a copy because Andy was out of town. I would have been stuck.. But Lisa came to my rescue. SHe handled it beautifully. She is such a calming influence.. oh, she found my sunglasses for me, too. Both of those would have sent me into a panic.

Mary came early to help prior to us leaving the house. She gave us a ride and had a big ear for me to talk her head off!! She walked us all the way to security. I wish she would have stayed around for when we went thru security because of the waters she gave us had to be left behind. She could have taken them back... oh, well.

Shelley really wanted me to take the train from HK to Gz.. hehe... So because of Shelley, we are basking in the sun, swimming, sitting in steam room!! Thank you Shelley. Thank you for holding my hand during this whole process.

Kathleen is here somewhere here in China. She skyped called me while I was packing to give even more encouragement. I told her when she left on Wednesday, I might go into a panic not having her near by (she lives in Va--I think, way up there somewhere). But she made sure she called me right as she was boarding the flight to Beijing at noon to see if I had the CA.. She almost cried in joy for me... Gotta love that girl. So ready to meet her in Gz. Ooops, forgot my Walmart greeting jacket, Kathleen.

Love all you guys....

breakfast in hk

We had a delicious breakfast. I feel better now. Airplane food and snacks were taking a toll on my stomach.

Our first shrimp dumplings, shrimp fried rice, congee (nobody tried it yet, we figure andi will like it so we will try this with her). Boys had a great time at breakfast because skyped with andy. Hey Bub -- we miss you and love you. Wish you were with us.

I feel like I am on vacation right now. The weather is warm and white clouds. Sitting out by the by the pool. Going to go swimming with the kids. The temp is 24 and 27c---i think that is colder than what I like.. I like 110f in the hot tub. But Dad is not here to play with them so I must be the best mom ever:) Going into a cold pool will certainly win that award for me...

security guard in jax

I will write later about what occurred in jax. Right now I am tired, but I wanted to remind myself to write about.

The first time I lost it in tears on this trip....not the last..

a Gator Fan on the plane

The couple across from us on the hk flight grew up spending their summer vacations in Neptune beach on pine street. Her Herr cousin Peggy (tim) Ingram still live in the house!!
No-andy, I am not chit chatting with everyone on the plane. The man was wearing a Gator shirt so I just had to ask "where u from?"

He says there're is a Gator everywhere u go----Shannon u gotta love that.

I am just amazed how small our world is---more truthful how our God demonstrates his providence and glory!!

more flight to hk

More bag excitement!! I was carrying a backpack, duffle type bag, a green shoulder bag and pulling the "rolling black bag" when we were sprinting. We did not have enough time to distribute bags when passing thru security. I just grabbed the bags and ran. All were a counted for. Well, that is until we were going down the tunnel and the lady stopped steven for a bag search and wand waving moment. I hear at the ticket counter way behind us "is this your bag?". I look around to make sure we have all bags. We DO NOT! The "rolling black bag" is missing!!! That is ours--that is ours. It was safely returned.

The "rbb" has all the adoption papers in it!! It is the only bag we really need!!

I know andy is about to have a cow reading this story. But, honey, we made it; we are having fun. No worries on this end. I know that statement is exactly why you are worried.

Family there

You hear people ask others "what brings you to china?" My answer now could be "we have family there!"

Flight to HK

> Ok, we had another close call on our air travel. More travel mercies. I don't have a wrist watch and my phone battery is about dead. Therefor, I have taken the attitude not to worry about time. At the end of our flight I hear "last call for hong kong". I am thinking (yes, I am thinking somewhat) that can't be our flight. I ask the family from Kentucky ---- what is the time?? It was our departure time to hk!! Oh, great we have missed the flight!! That means we will have to sleep in Japan! We are the back of the plane too. We attempt to hurry thru security again and sprinting down the hallway asking "hong kong?". Gate 17. Running, running --- gate 17 other end of terminal!!! Steven gets out n front and I tell just keep running to the lady at gate 17. Finally, we all make it and delta closes the door behind us!!! Our plane took off bout 30 minutes late. Glad they waited.
>
> Don't worry mrs rogers I don't think we were in Japan longer than 10 minutes! John said you would worry about there being "bad air."
>
> You know what? All is well!! A missed flight would still not preventing us getting baby Andi on Monday. That is all that matters.
>
>
> We are settled in for a 4 or 5 hour flight to hk arriving at 11pm. Plenty of room on this flight, gulliver's travels playing, some sticky rice, and green tea.

Many travel mercies today:)

Woohoo..

We will have baby Andi April 11, 2011!!

An asterisk at New Day

If you haven't check out New Day Foster Home webpage and blog you have to go do it right now!!
http://www.newdaycreations.com/foster/kids/kids_bjfst.htm
Really, you want to go read that way before you finish reading what I have to say. There are the cutest kids ever---being matched with their forever families. But in the meantime, the New Day staff and volunteers are giving them LOVE. It is so amazing to see what LOVE does to a soul---a soul of a precious babe!

Well, I check the site often (daily). I have especially been looking forward to when Lindsey would get the asterisk beside her name.. and SHE has an ASTERISK!! She has a family!!
God placed Lindsey on my heart and my families' heart to pray for this little girl to be united with her family as quickly as possible. I just can't wait to read about her journey to her forever home (sure hope her family blogs). What an honor to pray for this sweet child.

If we go with the group this week, there is one family adopting a little girl from New Day--Samantha... Sooo cool the way God gives us glimpses of how He is working...But even more peaceful is that God is at work even when we don't see it......but we really do see if we "choose to see".
God is good all the time.... Praises to our God...

Oh, no...no response from the consulate

China had Monday off so Tuesday was the first day back to work for the US Consulate. With a holiday, it sometimes takes longer for the consulate to respond to appointment requests.

We are going to have to wait til Wednesday to see if we get a CA..

Bags are mostly packed. We are ready to go!!

Got hair done so ready to travel

My old neighbor came today to give my hair a trim and highlights. Now we can travel---my hair is done!! Tammy has been so much fun sharing this adoption with. She loved on me and my boys when they were little. We would sit in the driveway while the kids took over our driveways and street.. a dear friend.
Tammy began a missional organization that helps provide for foster kids and foster families---called Foster Closet.
She and her husband have helped 1,800 children since they began this wonderful ministry.
Go check out fostercloset.org

Help them out if you can..

TA! TA! TA!!

We got our travel approval today..so exciting.

It is our youngest's spring break so we went out to play put-putt and race go karts followed by supper at the Loop when we got our email with the title TA...

The boys are so ready to travel. They don't want to have a rest day prior to getting Andi. They want to get her right away. Jet lag might kill us all...

We are now waiting on our CA (Consulate Appointment) followed by approval from Guangdong province that we can come to get Andi. The good news is that another family will be getting their child the same day so the officials will be working that day already.

We need prayer coverage for our kids to be well. Right now our oldest has been sick since 3 am with a stomach flu. He is even in bed and missing the Final Four game.. that means he is really sick.
Now one of the other boys began throwing up this evening. Pray that they all get well and stay well. This momma is sad with her boys moaning and groaning:(

When I spoke with Kathleen that our TA had arrived--she said she was about to cry! WOW..there are some special people going on this trip. The support has been tremendous and overwhelming.

It is beginning to look like Andi will be with us soon....just can't believe it is really happening.

Waiting with a Twist

We are still waiting on our Travel Approval.

But we do know that it was mailed last week and should arrive at our agency today.

Monday was a holiday in China so the Consulate was closed which means they may take a day or two longer to reply to appointment requests.

Soooo, we may find out this Wednesday that we can indeed travel on Friday to China. Nothing like last minute to travel around the world. BUT it is not last minute---we have been waiting a long time to go get our Andi and we are ready.. ready yesterday, ready last week, ready last month, etc.

If we don't go this week then the trip will be May 6th. That would mean another 6 weeks waiting. But as my sweet friend Kathleen has said, "It really is only 4 more weeks!"

If we go this week, we get to meet each other---Kathleen!! Kathleen has held my hand thru this whole process. She will be China picking up her little girl.

Praying to be wild and crazy --- making airline flight to China on Wednesday!!!

Article 5

  • Our article 5 came in today!!  I was not looking for it until next week so this was a big surprise

  • I have been saying we won't travel until May but a sweet blogger friend gave the hope that we might  make the April group

  •  So now my mind and heart are spinning that our Travel Approval (TA) comes in quick.  I mean real quick.. If it comes in quick, the turn around to travel would only be about 10 days!!  Oh, Andi, I am so ready to come get you...

Trust

Taking a leap of faith...trusting that He will provide...letting go and knowing He will catch you---actually, He never let you go...  WOW, today provision was given in a big way.... WOW
Praises from a grateful heart..

More praises---we got an updated echo... cardiologist seems "fine" with it... my dear husband says "clear as mud"... It is all clear to God.  He has painted the portrait, He sees the finished product... we just see the back side of the canvas... One day in Glory we will see...  But He gave us another glimpse in regards to Andi's heart condition....  She is in His hands...
Here is Dad and the Bub:)

God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.Psalm 68:6a

Peer review

Back in December, Andy was asked to review a faculty member's lecture.  He really did not want to do it.  But he felt like God had placed "this" in his lap.  It happened to be a pediatric cardiologist.   Andy went to the pediatric hospital for the lecture---was on VSD and ASD!!  and Andy spoke with the physician personally regarding Andi's medical file!!  God in the details.. Thank you, God, for the glimpse of where you are working....
